Therapy & Mental Health Support

Counselling and Psychotherapy for Common Mental Health Difficulties

Many people come to therapy when something  has happened or no longer feels manageable - even when things seem fine on the surface. If you are feeling off key, counselling may be able to help get you back on track and focused, feeling more content and motivated.

Types of Common Mental Health Problems

Mental health difficulties can show up in different ways, often affecting thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. They don’t look the same for everyone, and you don’t need a diagnosis or referral from a GP to benefit from therapy.

Why don't I feel right?

People come to therapy often unsure what is happening, asking questions like:

  • Why do I feel anxious or low even when life seems fine?

  • Why do I feel guilty so often?

  • Why can’t I stop procrastinating?

  • Why do I struggle to say no?

  • Why do relationships trigger strong reactions in me?

  • How do I know if I have attachment or relationship difficulties?

  • Why do I feel like a fraud at work or in relationships?

  • Can therapy help if I don’t know what’s wrong?

How Can Counselling Help?

Therapy provides an opportunity to explore what’s driving these things, understand how they developed, and begin to make sense of what’s going on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Having questions before getting in touch is very common - in the blog section we have a Q&A section that may help. Here are a few more to give you an idea. If you want to know something else, please get in touch and we will answer any questions you may have.

What are common mental health problems?

Common mental health problems can include anxiety, low mood or depression, stress, anger, low self-esteem, and feeling overwhelmed or stuck. For some people, it shows up as overthinking, difficulty sleeping, or struggling to switch off. For others, it might be withdrawing from people, losing motivation, or feeling disconnected from themselves or their life.

Not everything fits neatly into a label, and it doesn’t have to. What matters is how it’s affecting you and whether things feel harder than they should.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to come to therapy. Most people come because something isn’t working the way they want it to.

That might be feeling stuck in the same patterns, struggling in relationships, feeling low or anxious more often than not, or finding it harder to cope with everyday life. If you’ve been trying to manage it on your own and it’s not shifting, that’s usually a good point to speak to someone.

Can counselling help with anxiety and depression?

Yes, counselling can help you understand what’s driving anxiety or low mood and why it keeps showing up. It’s not just about managing symptoms, but making sense of what’s underneath them. For some people that might involve stress, past experiences, or patterns of thinking and behaviour. Therapy gives you a space to work through that at your own pace and start to feel more in control again.

What if I don’t know what’s wrong but feel stuck?

That’s more common than people think. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear explanation before starting therapy. Sometimes the feeling of being stuck is the starting point. Talking things through can help you understand what’s going on underneath, whether that’s pressure, expectations, past experiences, or something that hasn’t quite made sense yet.

Is it normal to feel overwhelmed without a clear reason?

Yes, it can be. Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t always come from one obvious cause. It can build over time from stress, pressure, unresolved experiences, or just trying to keep everything going. Even when things look fine on the outside, your internal experience can tell a different story. Therapy can help you slow things down and make sense of what’s contributing to that feeling.

In certain circumstances, to make therapy short term, I offer solution focused brief therapy and single session therapy sessions.

Take the First Step

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Many people begin with a general sense that something isn’t quite right, or that things have become harder to manage.

Taking time to talk things through can help bring a clearer understanding of what’s going on and what might need to change. From there, we can begin to look at what feels realistic and helpful for you, at a pace that works.
