International Women’s Day 2026
Every year on 8 March, people around the world mark International Women’s Day. It’s a moment to recognise the social, cultural, political and economic achievements of women, while also acknowledging that progress toward equality is still ongoing.
This year’s campaign theme highlights the idea of “Give to Gain” – encouraging individuals, organisations and communities to support women and girls so that everyone benefits when opportunities expand.
From a counselling perspective, days like this can also be a reminder of the many pressures women may carry – balancing work, family roles, expectations, and personal wellbeing. Taking time to recognise these experiences, listen to stories, and support each other is part of building healthier communities.
International Women’s Day is therefore not only about celebration, but also about reflection, appreciation, and continuing conversations about respect, opportunity and wellbeing for women everywhere.

International Women's Day is powered by the collective efforts of all
Collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity is what makes International Women's Day impactful. Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist reportedly once explained "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights." So make International Women's Day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.
